Aion features two factions, Elyos and Asmodians. The classes available for each faction and the skills are pretty much the same with slight differences. Both the factions has a more lifelong enemy, the Balaurs (NPC) and both developed from humans. The fight between this two faction is mainly caused by an understanding that the other group of deavas caused the collapse of the tower during the Cataclysm. The in born hatred caused both sides to continue fighting against each other.

Gifted humans from both factions have the ability to manipulate Aether and are called deavas. In the game itself, you can ascend into a deava when you reach level 9. The level cap is set to 50 for the official US and EU launch in September 2009.
